535 York Podcast Special Report - End Year 2009

I know this is way, way late on this but a lot of problems had came up so I decided that I'm going to just put the year end list online instead of put out a podcast episode so enjoy The Top 10 TechTV Fan / Twitter Post & The 1's List For 2009

    Paul (Nightone)

2008's #1 TechTV Fan Post: Rogers Cancels The Lab With Leo Laporte

    2009:

#10. [It's Late Night With TechTV] Morgan Webb, Kevin Rose & Alex Albrecht on Late Night w/ Jimmy Fallon

It was the premiere month of the new NBC late show Late Night w/ Jimmy Fallon who replaced Conan O'Brien who went to host The Tonight show and of course he needed big names to start on the first month of his new show. So in a surprise move to TechTV Fans, Jimmy got Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht to talk about Diggnation and Digg and other tech stories from Digg. Jimmy also invited Morgan Webb to talk about her life and of course gaming. This marks the first time in my memory that anybody from TechTV has been a late night show guest.

#9. [Jumping Monkeys No Longer Jumping] Megan Morrone Ends Her Jumping Moneys Podcast

After 72 shows on the TWiT network Megan Morrone posted on her blog that she was going to end her Jumping Monkeys Podcast. She posted that she's finding it more difficult to devote the time that she thought was needed to make the show improve and blossom and that's one of the reasons for the end of the podcast. She did also post that she was going to take down her blog too but it is still up as of this podcast. It might be the a while before we see her again. The last time was between TSS and this podcast which was over 2 years ago.

#8. [Attack Of Kevin And Sarah] Kevin Rose & Sarah Lane Celebrate AOTS' 1000th Show

Attack Of The Show had its 1000th show in July and with that they had on Kevin Rose and Sarah Lane to celebrate. Kevin Rose was on the show by a tape appearance and talked a little about the show and they also showed some clips of his time on AOTS which includes the most popular skit he did with them, "Homerowed". Sarah Lane did appear in person where she talked about her time on the show and also did a skit with them called AOTS Gauntlet which had her running on a treadmill in her heels while attempting to blend and drink the McDonald's Dollar Menu which she did blend but didn't drink. She did drink shots of hot sauce.

All in all it was good they got the chance to talk about the show but they overlooked the fact that AOTS replaced The Screen Savers. TSS was not mentioned and they didn't play any clips from TSS.

#7. [Cancel WebbAlert] Morgan Webb Ends Her WebbAlert Show

It was August 2007 when Morgan made her WebbAlert vidcast, which is the first time since The Screen Savers that she talked about technology. So it came as a surprise to some people that in January she announced that she was ending her show because G4 decided to make X-Play a daily show and she wanted time for other opportunities and time for herself. WebbAlert lasted a year and a half and she does sometimes talk about technology when she guest co-hosts on AOTS but this marks the end of a great show and we can all hope that she redoes her show or makes a new one like it in the near future.

#6. [Getting Your Daily X Not Recommended] G4 Drops Its X-Play Daily Format

It was January when something happened that X-Play fans wanted for a long time. They got it with the G4 announcement of a daily X-Play. For the first time in the shows long history, a new set and new logo. But with all things especially at G4, nothing lasts forever. Three short months later, they went back to 3 shows per week because with economic reasons as the excuse. Also, with that they moved them out of their prime time spot and laid off some of the staff. We hope that X-Play does a little bit better in 2010 than in 2009.

#5. [Systm Short Circuit] Revision3's Systm Drops Its Weekly Format

It was one of the first shows to launch when Revision3 began in 2005 and one of the few online tech shows but in June after 140 episodes, Revision3 decided that it was dropping its weekly version of Systm and reducing it to a segment on another Revision3 show, Tekzilla. Fans of the show were not pleased at all with this decision but it was mentioned that Systm could still return as a weekly show.

#4. [Wine It Would Have Been Fun] The Martin Sargent / Murphy-Goode Winery Debacle

Sonoma based winemaker Murphy-Goode announce an "online networker for hire" video contest with the prize of an 6 month social networking job and $60,000 paycheck plus free room and board. With a dream job like that, Martin Sargent threw his wine and beer stained hat into the ring.

Herein lay the problem, not only did Martin get a lot of votes, but he was the top vote getter. Yet the company not only didn't look at the numbers, but recruiters from the winery were calling candidates even before the contest was over. Martin tweets that he had lost the contest and that got retweeted by Kevin Rose and the flood of angry fans blasting the winery. The winery responded that it was never intended to be a contest and it was illegal to do a contest like this in the state of California. They also said that Martin was "overqualified". Martin said "It was a real slap in the face" but did publicly congratulate the other applicant finalists. The winner was Hardy Wallace who runs a successful wine blog called "Dirty South Wine". He won the job in July.

#3. [It's Over TechTV It's Over] G4TechTV Canada Drops TechTV From Its Name

It was bound to happen sooner or later and now the end is officially over. In June, Rogers Media changed its name from G4TechTV Canada to G4 Canada marking an end to the TechTV name. Canada was the last network to carry and air TechTV shows internationally. G4 Canada like it American counterpart is the shadow of itself, airing reruns of the NBC show The Office, Angry Planet and Which Way To..

#2. [Laura & Euna Not So Excellent Adventure] Laura Ling & Euna Lee Capture and Freedom

The capture of Laura Ling and Euna Lee grabbed headlines all over the U.S. Euna was an editor at TechTV from 2000 -2004 and Laura Ling. The two were working for Current TV near the Chinese-North Korean border when they crossed into the North Korea back in March and were arrested. In June a North Korean court found them guilty and sentenced them to 12 years in a North Korean Camp. For months the story continued with help from Sweden and the UN and of course online social media, all pressing to set them free.

In August former President Bill Clinton met North Korean leader Kim Jong ll to negotiate a release. Kim Jong agreed to give them a pardon and they all left that night to head back home. Laura took the whole summer off and is now back working for Current TV. Current's Vanguard series which she is a reporter on is rumored to be cut next year. Euna signed a six figure book deal with Broadway Books about her account in North Korea, called "The World Is Bigger Now: A Memoir Of Faith, Family and Freedom". There has been no date set of when the book will be released.

#1. [Sarah Doesn't Want To Seizure Again] Sarah Lane Ongoing Recovery Story

It was October when Sarah first twittered that she had a mild seizure then a Twitpic of her in a hospital room bed. A couple of days passed then we finally got the real story behind the two things that happened earlier. Sarah posted a long and very detailed story on her blog about having a seizure in a cafe, going to a hospital and getting tested, and finding out that she had a tumor. She was prescribed anti-epilepsy drugs. Later going to a neurologist then taking more powerful drugs she described her reaction to those drugs. All this took a real toll on Sarah which includes not driving in a car because of drug side effects. She's taking the bus now because a loss of balance and coordination is one major effect of the drugs. Sarah blogged that it makes her walk into walls. The tumors turned out to be parasitic in nature, picked up in the 3rd world during Sarah's global travels.

In November, she posted some good news that her radiologist and neurologist told her that her tumor was showing “progressive reduction” and that the tumors already diminished. Sarah has returned from a trip to Paris, France which is a good sign that she is getting better and we all hope that she gets back to 100% well and has a healthy and happy 2010.

"September 11, 2001 was not the end of the journey for you.But someday your journey will end. And I will be there for you as well. Seek Me now while I may be found. Then, at any moment, you know you are "ready to go"

...I will be in the stairwell of your final moments.

    Love,

    God "
